Editorial management process

Every article received by the Revista de Gastroenterologia del Perú (RGP) will be evaluated by an Assistant Editor and the Editorial Committee; If it is of interest and complies with the formal, ethical and methodological aspects of these Instructions, it will be reviewed. The number of reviewers will depend on the type of article:

  • At least 2 reviewers for original articles,
  • 1 at least for other types of articles.

The editorial management, which we detail here, comprehends from the reception of a manuscript to its publication in the RGP.

Reception of the manuscript

After submission of the original manuscript by the author, it is coded and placed on the agenda for consideration by the Editorial Committee. The Editorial Assistant will assign articles to editors in order of arrival. The Open Journal System (OJS) will automatically set the status of the manuscript.

AVERAGE EDITOR RESPONSE TIME: 15 CALENDAR DAYS.

Evaluation of the Editorial Committee

The Editor in charge will evaluate the manuscript initially. If it meets the formal requirements established by these Instructions (format, number of words, style of bibliographic references, etc.), the content will be reviewed and presented at the next meeting of the Editorial Committee. The status “Review” will appear in the OJS. Otherwise, the shipment will be rejected, indicating the reason(s); the status “Rejected” will appear in OJS.

At the meeting, the Editorial Committee will evaluate the manuscript and, if it meets the evaluation standards of the RGP, will indicate that its evaluation be requested by external referees (peer review) national and international, who will give their opinion anonymously, under the double-blind modality, on the quality and validity of its content. Otherwise, the request will be rejected.

AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME FROM THE EDITORIAL COMMITTEE: 15 CALENDAR DAYS.

Review process by external reviewers

At this stage, external specialists are invited to evaluate the manuscript, under the criteria of originality, relevance and relevance of the study. These will make a specialized evaluation of the content; Therefore, their selection will be made using the criteria of competence in the subject.

The evaluation can conclude with the following suggestions:

  • Accept the manuscript.
  • Reevaluate the manuscript after responding to comments.
  • Reject the manuscript.

Revision by reviewers has a period that can vary between two weeks to one month, depending on the availability of the reviewers. If the number of arbitrators is even and there are discordant decisions, the intervention of an additional arbitrator will be requested. The status in the OJS system will remain at “Review”.

AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME: BETWEEN 15 DAYS AND 2 CALENDAR MONTHS, depending on the complexity of the manuscript to be evaluated, or the availability of specialized reviewers. This deadline may be extended if a second review is required.

Rising observations

The observations made by the editors and/or external referees will be sent to the corresponding author, giving him a deadline to raise these observations. The deadline is usually up to 2 weeks, and may be extended at the request of the author or authors. The status in the OJS system will remain at “Review”.

The corresponding author must send the observations including:

  • The article corrected with tracked changes.
  • A letter that details each of the observations made, the response to them and the actions taken by the author or authors.

An inadequate response to the observations may imply an additional request for raising observations, and even non-approval of the manuscript. If the author does not respond within the requested period, the manuscript will be rejected.

After the response of the author or authors, the Associated Editor in charge will verify that the observations have been correctly resolved, and will put the corrected version of the manuscript for the consideration of the Editorial Committee. This stage can be repeated more than once.

AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME: 15 CALENDAR DAYS, AT MINIMUM.

Final decision

After reviewing the corrected version of the manuscript, the Editorial Committee will decide whether to accept or reject its publication. If accepted, the manuscript will move to the editing stage (the status in the OJS system will change to “Editorial”); If it is not accepted, the corresponding author will be notified of the rejection, indicating the reasons for this decision.

AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME: BETWEEN 7 TO 15 CALENDAR DAYS.

Edition

At this stage, the text of the manuscript will be edited in order to stylistically adapt it to the RGP. Minor changes to the wording may be made, while major changes must be consulted by the Deputy Editor to the corresponding author.

AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME: BETWEEN 5 TO 7 CALENDAR DAYS.

Design, layout and printing proof

At this stage, the article is diagrammed in the graphic style of the RGP and the printing proof is generated. This document will be sent to the corresponding author, in PDF format, for approval. Failure to respond to said communication within a period of 3 calendar days may be assumed as tacit approval by the Editorial Committee, and no changes will be made.

PRINT PROOF APPROVAL TIME: 5 CALENDAR DAYS.

Closing and publication

The article is published on our website and OJS system and is accessible in full. Subsequently, versions of the article can be generated in alternative formats (XML, HTML or others), to enter them into the databases in which the journal is indexed, improving its visibility.

AVERAGE RESPONSE TIME: 5 CALENDAR DAYS.
