 Authorship policies

 Authorship confers responsibility for the contents and procedures related to the article and the research itself.

The Revista de Gastroenterologia del Peru recognizes as authors those who meet all the "authorship criteria" recognized by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), where authors are considered those who meet the following requirements:

  • Contribute significantly to the conception or design of the manuscript, or to the collection, analysis or interpretation of data.
  • Write or critically review the content of the manuscript.
  • Approve the final version to be published.
  • Assume responsibility for all aspects of the manuscript, to ensure that issues related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of it will be appropriately investigated and resolved.

For someone to be recognized as an author, they must satisfy the four conditions mentioned. In turn, this should be reflected in the “Authorship contributions” section. On the other hand, the ICMJE recommendations indicate that only participation in fundraising, data collection or general supervision of the research group does not justify authorship and must be listed in the "Acknowledgments" section. The contribution of each author and the order of appearance in the article is the responsibility of the authors, the magazine has no influence in these aspects.

Peer review policies

Peer review has the purpose of guaranteeing the quality of the articles to be published. The articles are submitted to peer evaluation under a double-blind modality. The selection of reviewers is made based on their expertise in the topic. The review is anonymous and ad honorem. Reviewers must declare possible conflicts of interest regarding the commissioned article and recuse themselves from the review and maintain the privacy of the data contained in the article. Original articles are evaluated by two or more national or foreign reviewers. The reviewers are external and independent of the journal.

The evaluation can conclude with the following suggestions:

  • Accept the manuscript.
  • Reevaluate the manuscript after responding to comments.
  • Reject the manuscript.

Reviews will have a maximum of 15 business days to issue their evaluation: if additional time is required, an extension of the deadline may be considered.

In cases of controversy, an additional evaluator will be appointed. Based on the rating and the reviewers' comments, it will be evaluated whether the manuscript is approved for publication, rejected for publication, or sent to the reviewers' comments.

Once the authors' observations have been raised, it is reviewed that the manuscript meets the requirements for publication. If any additional correction is necessary, a second round of comments will be sent to the authors.

Conflicts of interest policies

 The Council of International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) define conflicts of interest as those situations in which there is a substantial risk that the secondary interests of one or more parties interested in research improperly affect their judgment and compromise or undermine the primary objective of the investigation.

Financial conflicts of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Receive reimbursements, fees, financing or salary from an organization that may otherwise gain or lose financially from publication of the manuscript, either now or in the future.
  • Own shares or interests in an organization that may in any way gain or lose financially from the publication of the manuscript, either now or in the future.
  • Own or apply for patents related to the content of the manuscript.
  • Receive reimbursements, fees, funding, or salary from an organization that owns or has applied for patents related to the content of the manuscript.

Non-financial conflicts of interest include (but are not limited to) interests related to the following:

  • Politics
  • Personal
  • Religion
  • Ideologies
  • Academics
  • Intellectual

The Revista de Gastroenterologia del Peru (RGP) requires that authors declare all potential or existing conflicts of interest in relation to their research. Details of the conflict of interest must be provided in relation to the type of link or relationship with third parties or with the Institution (for-profit or non-profit) where the study was carried out, whose interests may be affected by the content of the manuscript.

If an error is detected related to the declaration of conflicts of interest, the RGP will proceed according to the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Informed consent policies

 The Revista de Gastroenterologia del Peru requires that all articles involving research on human beings explicitly state that informed consent was obtained.

For case reports, authors must declare whether they have the informed consent of the patient or responsible family members. Otherwise, approval from an ethics committee must be obtained to conduct the research.

Informed consent must include permission for the publication of the patient and their photographs in magazines.

Plagiarism, duplicate publication and data fabrication policy

The Revista de Gastroenterología del Perú (RGP) adheres to the recommendations of the Committee in Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). This refers particularly to ethical breaches in publishing:

  • Scientific fraud (plagiarism, falsification or fabrication of data);
  • Authorship (unjustified authorship, incomplete authorship)
  • Redundant or “sister” publications;
  • Institutional affiliation;
  • No declaration of conflicts of interest.

Any manuscript sent to the journal may be reviewed using an anti-plagiarism software program. If necessary, the competent institutions will be informed: institutions of origin of the authors, institutions that financed the study, professional associations and ethics committees that approved the research.

Although RGP editors can publish in the journal, they are prevented from participating in the editorial processes of their manuscripts and in the Editorial Committee's discussions about them (voice and vote). The published articles will explain this situation.

Errata and retractions policy

Errata: Once the print proof has been approved by the corresponding author for the publication of their article, no further corrections will be made to the published version. However, the Committee may consider allowing one or more corrections from the author to significant errors that could affect the integrity of the manuscript.

Retraction: If ethical misconduct is detected during the publication process, the article will be rejected; If the article has been published, a retraction will be generated, after investigation and respecting the right to defense of those involved.
